Designing with plants
The most important part in laying out a garden is the scale and proportion, the traffic flow and determining the locations for usable spaces. These are important because they determine how a garden is used, but the plants are the crowing glory for every garden. They provide texture and colour and help set the mood of a space. It is also the most difficult craft in a landscape design because of the changing nature of plants through the seasons, the different requirements of plants and taking into account how the garden will continue to develop over time. Designing with plants allows for literally millions of different combinations and styles.
At Fruits and Shoots, we know our plants. We know what does well in our Pacific North West climate and we love working with both tried and proven heritage plants as well as some of the newest plants on the market that are the result of intense breeding programs. Jack has been gardening and landscaping with plants for close to 30 years and he is still amazed at how much there is yet to learn in the plant kingdom.
